Love at First Sight, Marian Walter and Iana Salenko

Love at First Sight

Marian Walter and Iana Salenko in Romeo and Juliet, watercolour

Marian Walter and Iana Salenko of Berlin State Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin . In a gala rehearsal for Romeo and Juliet. Watercolor with Washi Paper. I wanted to capture the intimacy of first moment they met.
Title Love At First Sight, Romeo and Juliet

I also used washi paper for her dress to not only capture the fine material but to also symbolise their relationship and its delicacy.

Quotes that also helped inspired me together with their beautiful dancing.

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.”
― William ShakespeareRomeo and Juliet

“Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”

Opening Night for Swansea Print Workshop at the Ceri Richards Gallery, Swansea

Great time at the opening night for the Swansea Print Workshop at Ceri Richards Gallerly. A wide variety of prints and some drawings inspired by Dylan Thomas and his works. A fascinating array of talent and a must see exhibition. On until March 29th

Dylan Thomas Dialogues: an exhibition of contemporary printmaking
The exhibition reveals artists’ responses to the theme ‘belonging’. Working with selected texts from Dylan Thomas and contemporary writers Rachel Trezise and Maggie Shipstead, winners of the international Swansea University, ‘Dylan Thomas Prize’, the printmakers journey to old haunts and make new discoveries of self and place.
They remember childhood experiences, make fresh connections with familiar spaces, consider the role of artist and writer in society and rediscover the value of family, community and country.
The exhibition celebrates contemporary printmaking from eighteen established and emerging Wales-based artists set against a backdrop of Thomas’ birthplace.
Alongside the exhibition will feature a 2003 collection of prints based on Thomas’ poem, Especially when the October wind.

Sketch of Tulips in watercolor and ink

I was given pink tulips and roses and thought they were so pretty I had to sketch them.
I used Watercolor and pen.
I could've had done better with the composition but really enjoyed painting the tulip shape and wanted to keep it simple.

Llywchwr Art Goup

I was invited last night by batik artist

Rhona Tooze to give a talk on being the

first official Artist in Residence at

Swansea Grand Theatre for the

Llwchwr

Art Group. I had a great time, meeting

blasts from the past and new faces as

well. A lovely group of artists. Very

passionate about their art and

interested in other artists

It was a real pleasure and will

look out for their exhibition in Swansea

Grand Theatre later this year.

I was thrilled that even on a dreadful

rainy and windy night that I had a

great turn out for my talk.
