Pastel in Art Class, Looking at Degas

Teaching pastel to my art classes which they have all thoroughly enjoyed as you can see from some examples below. I showed the use of pastel through artists such as myself and Degas. I found a lovely photo from the Frick Museum of a photograph of a little ballerina recreated as Degas must have drawn her. I thought it would be a good idea to pastel from a photo rather than direct from an actual Degas painting so they could view the ballerina as he would have. Also as you can see, some of my students loved it so much they went on to copy some of Degas' actual pastel sketches as well.
